PIER 84
The climax setting for B-grade horror makers is the abandoned dock at PIER 84. Splintering logs jut out at all angles as gravy-colored water laps against them eerily. Brown swan-like creatures lick themselves and never fly. In the daytime kids of tourists shriek and run at pigeons. At night, the shuttered snack shack with its flaking menu boards creaks. Two boats painted with shark teeth and wild eyesThe Beast I and The Beast IIdock side by side. Fenced-off areas carry "DangerKeep Off" signs. And in the background the formidable, stagnant warship carrying navy fighter planes throbs with the stench of redundant history.
