Comments (0) Best wine columnist for a gourmet magazine formerly published by the Italian Communist Party - 2004

LEONARD BARKAN

Gambero Rosso, or "Red Shrimp," is named as a pun on its leftist origins, but Italian Communists take food and wine as seriously as they do the revolution. LEONARD BARKAN, the New York wine editor for the magazine's English edition, is a native of Greenwich Village who divides his time between the Vermeer building in Chelsea and leafy Princeton, where he is a super-distinguished comp-lit prof. Look for his Foraging column on the magazine's last page.
