Best East Village Block Reminiscent of the Good Old Days New York 2005 - EAST 4TH STREET BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD AVENUES

One last slice of old East Village—EAST 4TH STREET BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD AVENUES—recalls what the entire East Village looked like in the '70s and '80s, before the yuppies, before the condos, before sushi and $10 salads: tenement buildings and storefronts with haircutters, galleries, theaters, music stores, vintage shops, a food co-op, a coffeehouse, and a bodega. Being anchored by the offices of Community Board 3 and the Cooper Square Committee, a housing activist organization, can't hurt.
