The mavens of the GOTHAM GIRLS ROLLER DERBY league have reinvigorated the catfighting—broken noses, black eyes, and all. The matches come replete with beer, bands, and battling, updating the sport's 1960s girl-next-door image with plenty of punk rock attitude. The gamble worked—what was, just a year ago, a few New York girls on wheels has now brought an old sport back to national attention.
