My favorite vegetarian cuisine is southern India's, and there's no better place to dig it than Newark Avenue, just north of Journal Square, where a dozen places make the stuffed crepes called dosas. Best so far are found at Sri Ganesh's Dosa House, which is a little like calling a hot-dog place Jesus' Weenie Hut. There are over 50 dosa choices, instead of the three or four usually offered, including innovative new-world versions that include Velveeta, and regional variations like pesarattu, Bangalore ghee masala dosa, and Pondicherry (France's former Indian colony) plain dosa. In addition, you can explore idly, utthapam, and the delightful spice-studded porridge called upma.
