Best new gallery/store for big kids who still like to play with toys New York 2006 - Giant Robot
California-based Giant Robot magazine has long been the place to go for the latest word on Asian pop culture and underground art. This new Manhattan outpost of the Giant Robot empire should serve as a headquarters for anime-loving kids and adults not too old to collect Uglydolls and mimobots. Owned by Eric Nakamura, who co-founded GR back in 1994, when it was just a little zine, the storefront gallery has already produced shows by Kozyndan and Souther Salazar. The narrow gift shop next door is a trove of limited-edition toys, graphic novels, cool magazines, and supercute (often supercutesy) T-shirts; it also hosts regular book signings.
