Best reason to go to Central Park New York 2006 - Central Park Dance Skaters Association Skate Circle
Sure, the zoo isn't too bad, Sheep Meadow is a nice place to stretch out, and mimes can be funny for a minute or two, but the best reason to go to Central Park is to check out the Central Park Dance Skaters Association Skate Circle (every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. from mid April through Halloween). Roller disco is alive and well at this weekly gathering, where dozens of men and women of all ages spin, high-five, and boogie down to booming beats. At first, you may feel inclined to laugh at, say, a 70-year-old man rollin' in a pair of short shorts, tube socks hiked up to his knees, dropping into a split in the middle of "Stayin' Alive." But watch that guy for another 10 minutes, look at how completely uninhibited and happy he is, and I swear, he'll become your new hero.
