The View Lounge at the Marriott Marquis, the city's only revolving restaurant, is like a cellophane-wrapped single red rose: It's a cheesy attempt at elegance, but there is still something beautiful about it. Admittedly, the lounge is packed with annoying tourists and most cocktails are $15, but, well, they've got a monopoly on the whole revolving thing. A full rotation affords a view of Times Square from 48 floors up, and for those of us who never wear fanny packs or stop in the middle of the sidewalk to admire the pretty lights, it's a rare chance to actually appreciate the architecture and sparkle of midtown. They offer an overpriced buffet, but the budget-conscious can opt for just the dessert end, which includes a chocolate fountain. Go on a weeknight before 9 p.m. to skip both the lines and the $7 cover charge, then order a drink and sip leisurely as you watch the Manhattan skyline go by.
