You know the type: the pale, possibly anemic, allergic-to-everything sickee who must abide by the strictest dietary requirements or else puff up like that blueberry-gum-chompin' kid from Willy Wonka from even the smallest portion of wheat, dairy, or sugar. Alas, whether you're watching what you eat for reasons of personal safety (like the above) or just out of über health consciousness, a lot of those good-for-you sweets are about as flavorful as a rice cake sprinkled with air (i.e., not so yummers). But if you're down for eating "sweets" of the organic, sugar-free, wheat-free, gluten-free, free-free, vegan variety, point your munching apparatus toward the Lower East Side's Babycakes NYC: The little bakery has some of the tastiest—as in flavor-filled!—and genuinely healthy confections around: muffins, cookies, scones, pies, brownies, and sweet breads, all lovingly goosed with agave nectar instead of evil white powders or chemically enhanced corn syrups.
