Even as the old taverns disappear in the area that realtors and new business owners (but no one else) have dubbed Bococa—Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, and Carroll Gardens—as quickly as the blue-collar Italians and Irish who once lived there, Cody's Ale House Grill has endured and prospered. Proprietor Kevin Cody recently added extra flat-screen TVs (there's now a total of 18) and has DIRECTV packages for all the major sports to go with the top-notch pub grub and quick bartenders who are generous with the buybacks. The regulars' allegiances are evenly split between the Yankees and Mets, Jets and Giants, but fans of other teams are not only tolerated but welcomed—as long as they can put up with a little good-natured ribbing. Because of that, in recent years Cody's has also become a regular meeting spot for out-of-town gridiron clubs. The Packers, Steelers, and Bengals all have regular fan clubs that watch their hometown teams' games there. And when it comes to the denizens of the diamonds, even the Fenway faithful—yes, Red Sox fans—are accepted without having to wear baseball helmets and brandish bats.
