More than three million people have been killed in the factional and sometimes international war that?s been raging for decades in the Democratic Republic of Congo. And as the misery continues, our city?s own Human Rights Watch?one of the top NGOs in the U.S.?continues to keep an eye on it from its Fifth Avenue HQ. Among the HRW?s new figures, which were released earlier this year: 300,000 more people driven out of their homes; 100 people killed for protesting corruption; tens of thousands of street kids at risk, ?subjected regularly to physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, often at the hands of police and military forces.? Enough said? Probably not.
