Toward the end of its life, gritty dance club Luke and Leroy had no trouble packing "em in" the venue begat the Misshapes, after all--but we preferred its sophisticated makeover into Le Royale. The stage upstairs looks out onto a dance floor, where disco balls twinkle overhead and a sleek, black bar backs up to swirly wallpaper; downstairs is all glass and light, with mirrored walls and a curvy, transparent partition that houses a DJ booth. It provides an intimate setting for Robot Rock (the GBH weekly party previously held across the street at Movida, cut short when that club closed), which pairs resident DJs Alex English and Dimitry with the likes of Jamie Hince and Albert Hammond Jr. You may need to be a supermodel to hook up with the talent, but around 4 a.m., the shaggy-haired hipster boys in attendance are a lot less discerning. Promise.
