Harlem Lanes might be going overboard by describing an evening there as ?the most unforgettable experience New York?s hottest entertainment destination can offer,? but that?s the kind of swagger we appreciate at a place that mixes bowling with spoken-word poetry. They also have disco bowling, couples? nights, karaoke, and the requisite chicken wings to go along with it all. The two-year-old business successfully straddles the line between family venue and Harlem hot spot. For the kids, it has pizza-party packages and a children?s menu; for those looking for stylish uptown boozing, it offers fancy cocktails with names like Three Lane, a concoction of Aliz?, Hynotiq, and Hennessey, along with a menu of calamari and shrimp cocktails. The alley has hosted a few famous folks, including rappers Fabolous and Ja Rule, but still doesn?t get the recognition it deserves. It?s more fun and considerably cheaper than the posh and weirdly romantic Chelsea Piers bowling alley, and some players there aren?t too proud to don the bumpers now and then. Well, maybe that?s just us.
