On the last Friday of the month, the place gets packed with people—that's when the salon hosts its monthly open-mic night. Sit under the hair dryer and check out the acts: The performances are mostly spoken-word and monologues, but every so often someone belts out an r&b tune. Located on a fun block near Habana Outpost and Cake Man Raven, De Lux has had more than its fair share of drama: In October 2008, gunmen chased a man into the beauty parlor, shot him to death, and wounded three others inside.
