The Bent Spoon
Because New York abounds with good ice cream, I'm almost ashamed to admit that my favorite comes from . . . New Jersey. But the monthly appearance of Princeton's the Bent Spoon at the New Amsterdam Market is akin to the arrival of Christmas or Hanukkah or asparagus season: something to be celebrated and greedily enjoyed. And that's because it's mind-warpingly delicious and texturally perfect. The ice cream flavors rely largely on seasonal produce, but aren't defined solely by it; the pumpkin option also includes mascarpone and cacao nibs. It's ice cream made with inspiration, and ice cream worth waiting for. New Amsterdam Market, South Street Seaport
