A foul-mouthed Orthodox Jewish ex-cop (also cab driver and bounty hunter), Democratic political consultant working on a dissertation on the political power of the Catholic Church and with an ax to grind against "Seinfeld Jews" sounds like a character in a half-baked script. But New York's political reporters are blessed with just that in Hank Sheinkopf, who has been in the game since working on Herman Badillo's 1969 mayoral campaign. He has run his own shop since 1981, working for everyone from Bill Clinton to Eliot Spitzer to Mark Green to (a rare non-Democrat) Michael Bloomberg. The Bronx native doctor of spin and longtime power player is the rare call who provides both on-the-money quotes and real context and background, always with his own spin and interests (in both senses of the word) in mind.
