This is a narrow category indeed, because only four restaurants in town qualify for the award. So let's give it this year to Kaia, a newish and remarkably comfortable wine bar—meaning there's space to spare among the tables—located on the Upper East Side. There's bunny chow, of course (a mild vegetable curry served in a hollowed-out loaf of bread), and bobotie (a small meat loaf topped with béchamel sauce and way mellow).
