Curious about a rather exotic sport that you probably didn't even know existed? Try the New York Kayak Polo Club, which has shuttled around different West Side piers to play from year to year, but has been a steadfast group since 2002. Women outnumber men, and players tend to be from many different countries. Games consist of two 10-minute halves, and players pass around a water polo ball by hand, though they can use the paddles, too. And like hoops, you can't keep the ball too long, and penalty shots are part of the game. (High-scoring games are prohibited by the time limit.)
