Rhinebeck

Some of us aren't rolling in the dough and don't own country homes, but we still yearn to dip into that way of life at least once in a while. Luckily, our weekend escape awaits only two hours away. Rhinebeck is a relaxing village located near the banks of the Hudson River and served as the wedding destination for Chelsea Clinton. The trip north on the Amtrak is gorgeous, with views of the Hudson, neighboring towns, and state parks. Once you get to the Rhinecliff-Kingston stop, cabs are accessible to take you into town. East Market Street, Rhinebeck's central point, boasts a variety of restaurants, bakeries, art galleries, wine and coffee shops, and a movie theater that screens independent films. Strolling on this street is enough relaxation to get you out of that New York state of mind, but if you're into more athletic activities, the town features bike rentals, hiking trails, kayak tours, and tons more. We suggest booking a bed-and-breakfast at least a month or two in advance. rhinebeckchamber.com
