Best German - 2013
In the heart of a small German community in Glendale, this restaurant and beer hall is something of a Teutonic Cheers for area residents, who've ordered massive plates of wursts and schnitzels to go with their steins of frothy pilsners for over 40 years. They fill most tables, huddling over bowls of Zum Stammtisch's dense goulash, ordering from a competent beer list containing a number of Hofbrau brews as well as the occasional oddball import, like the smoked Schlenkerla rauchbier. Finicky diners and lap-banders beware: It's nearly impossible to eat slightly here. Entrée portions easily serve three, making leftovers a given.
