Best Tennis Court New York 2013 - Fort Greene Park
DeKalb & S. Portland Aves
Brooklyn, NY 11217
At times, tennis in New York manages to be even more pretentious than tennis in the 'burbs, with clubs charging outrageous prices for access to their precious courts and guarded old-timers holding onto their knowledge of supposedly secret spots all the way up to that big tennis court in the sky. Not at Fort Greene Park, where six hard courts, resurfaced over the summer, hold some of the most competitive—but also friendliest—matches in the city. Got skills? Then sign up for Fort Greene Tennis Ladder, and enter the single-elimination tournament they hold at the end of the season. Got kids? Sign them up for the summer tennis program, and maybe one day they'll head north to play the game at Arthur Ashe. Citywide permits go for $200 a year, while a single reservation costs $15.
