Black Version Of Steel Magnolias! Dig The Casting!
This was the white version, as you'll recall.
Lifetime is doing a Steel Magnolias of color, and I'm all hopped up about the cast.
In the part of Truvy, the salon owner played by Dolly Parton in the 1989 movie, they've signed the formidable Jill Scott.
As M'Lynn -- originally played by likable Sally Field -- we now have Queen Latifah (no stranger to beauty shops).
Playing the cranky Ouiser, so believably portrayed by Shirley MacLaine, there will be the highly respected Alfre Woodard.
As Clairee, created by Olympia Dukakis, you can expect Claire Huxtable, a/k/a Phylicia Rashad.
The newest "glamour technician," Annelle, once played by Daryl Hannah, is now going to be Adepero Oduye.
And in the Julia Roberts role of the ailing, heart-tugging Shelby, get ready for rising star Condola Rashad.
I'd rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special, but this sounds like two hours of wonderful! Including commercials!
