Caviar Dreams, or Just a Bialy on Houston
We're all going to die soon, clearly, so we might as well enjoy the perks of Global Warming while we can, right? Like sitting outside Russ and Daughters on a mid-December evening, enjoying some Gaspe salmon on a bialy.
On the one hand, it practically feels like spring. But then, it's also caviar season. Russ and Daughters will be operating its usual caviar express line the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before Christmas and before New Year's. So push your way through the crowd and head for the back counter to pick up a little American Osetra ($114.95 for 50 grams). This is the Russ/Federman family favorite again this year, and I can personally vouch for the deliciousness of last year's crop. Crop?
The store also has Siberian Osetra, which is slightly pricier, and Hackleback and Paddlefish roes, which are less expensive.
Russ & Daughters 179 E Houston St (212) 475-4880
Holiday Hours: The store will be open from 9-8 on Saturday, 8-6 on Sunday, and 9-3 on Christmas.
