My friend Arielle Zibrak, 23, a New Yorker who works in publishing, just returned from a full day of canvassing in Pennsylvania. At 7 pm she knocked on her last house of the day. Chrissy, a 23-year-old single mom, answered. She said she had voted for Bush in 2000 but hadn't yet decided who--or whether--to vote today. "Look at all the volunteers out here. People who support Kerry are people like you and me," Arielle told her. After talking to her for 15 minutes, Arielle walked her to the polls, where she cast her vote for Kerry. "It was the one thing that's made me have hope in this whole thing," Arielle said.
