De Niro Doesn't Believe In God!
It's true -- the Oscar-winning legend no longer looks at the sky and says, "You talkin' to me?"
In a Tribeca Film Festival talk with newsman Brian Williams that I just went to, De Niro said that at age 15, he decided not to go to church anymore.
"That's not for me from now on," he remembered informing his grandmother.
"I respect religion," he told Williams, "but if there's a God, he's got a lot of explaining to do!"
Bobby was starting to sound a little like Desi Arnaz, so the talk moved on to other topics.
Here are some of the revelations:
*De Niro loves watching TV news (like Brian Williams's show). He has an iPhone and a computer, but he doesn't Tweet, not seeing the point of it.
*He's doing another Scorsese movie -- The Irishman -- this time with Pacino and Pesci, dealing with the guy who killed Jimmy Hoffa.
*He may have actually written the line "You talkin' to me?"
(Williams said the line is supposedly handwritten into the margins of De Niro's Taxi Driver script. DeNiro said that could be.)
But most importantly:
*The actor's middle name isn't Mario, contrary to what IMDb says. It's Anthony!
So don't be talkin' to Mario!
