I'm a Nancy Boy!
My idol Nancy Sinatra called to invite me to dinner, so naturally I ran there with boots on! It turned out to be a gala event at the Wall Street Cipriani to raise money for the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, over in Astoria, Queens, plus a 95th birthday bash for billionaire philanthropist John Kluge.
And what an evening! It involved amazing performances by Tony Bennett and k.d. lang, a sincere speech by Bill Clinton praising Kluge and Bennett, a student chorus's rendition of songs from Kiss Me Kate, a lecture about how Kluge's helped fund the cancer battle, and a spinning dance by a dizzying lady named Zulema. And it was all MC'd wittily by Nathan Lane!
The event redefined eclectic, and best of all, I got to reconnect with Nancy (who has a new boyfriend and deserves it) and her daughter A.J., who might get into the restaurant biz. Plus I devoured the meal my way!
