I'm Singing Michael Jackson Songs!
Oy vey, I've gotten hooked into performing at the Hear Me Roar! Project benefit for Sylvia's Place this Thursday August 20 at 6 at Bowery Poetry Club. I don't have an act, having worn out Suzanne Somers's poetry book as if it were a raunchy bottom, so out of desperation, I'm going to dig back to my Motown cover band days and sing a Michael Jackson medley as a sort of bittersweet homage!
Accompanied by Evan O'Reilly from Air Kiss on Mars, I will attempt to croon the tunes in a relatively normal range (my falsetto is even more ravaged than that poetry book) and I will graciously lay off the sarcasm, though I might preface my heartfelt performance with a couple of tasteless jokes just to relieve the tension. By the way, the event helps homeless LGBTQ youth in NYC--so maybe I'd better rethink the whole Michael Jackson tribute idea in the first place, lol!
