It's a Good One: Custard-y Dim Sum Donuts
On Saturday, we ate many a snack at A Taste of Chinatown, and there was a range from mediocre to delicious. Our prettiest pictures are here and you should check them out.
The photo above is not so wonderfully composed, but these little bundles of sweet, egg-y goodness must be shared with the public. When we saw these babies at Nom Wah Tea Parlor, we almost felt like we had skipped ahead to the oh-so-popular Feast of San Gennaro, where the zeppole--though not great--are the best consolation for attending.
The dim sum donut is light and golden brown like zeppole, but inside, the eggy batter is steamy and custard-like, and the finished product is rolled in granulated sugar rather than confectioner's, so instead of an icing effect, you get a little crunch. It's a good one.
