Keith Haring Is Now A Book!
Yes, the legendary graffiti-artist-turned-kazillionaire is coming to art-book stores in October with a sumptuous and respectful tome. It'll be easy — there'll be lots of pictures! Even the press release is simpler to digest than a spray-painted subway. Here goes:
By Jeffrey Deitch, Suzanne Geiss, and Julia Gruen With contributions by Kenny Scharf and George Condo In association with the Estate of Keith Haring
Including extensive previously unpublished texts, interviews, and visual material from the archives of the artist’s estate, this book traces the arc from Haring's early subway tags, to his poignant work on social issues as diverse as AIDS, illiteracy, and apartheid. So much more than a tribute to the artist’s work, KEITH HARING vividly documents a very particular time in the social history of New York City. Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna, Fab Five Freddy, Jellybean Benitez, and many other legendary characters are here, bringing to vivid life this richly creative time.
Visually stunning, and timed to coincide with what would have been his 50th year, this book is the definitive work on Keith Haring, and absolutely essential for anyone with an interest in the art world at the end of the 20th Century.
So come on, people. Please help atone for that bad off-Broadway musical about poor Keith and buy this book to set the record straight, as it were!
