Motown The Musical Is Coming! Come And Get These Memories
In my column about theater last year, I bemoaned the fact that there have been jukebox musicals about everything except the one I want to see--Motown!
Berry Gordy Jr. is planning a show called Motown which will tell his story while sprinkling in the Motown hits of the day.
And I'm here to say that if it doesn't include the following songs, I will get violent:
THE SUPREMES "Where Did Our Love Go?" "In and Out of Love" "Reflections" "Love Child"
STEVE WONDER "Fingertips" "I Was Made To Love Her" "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"
MARVIN GAYE "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" (also done brilliantly by Gladys Knight & the Pips) "You're All I Need To Get By" (with Tammi Terrell) "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (ditto)
THE TEMPTATIONS "My Girl" "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" "Ball of Confusion"
JIMMY RUFFIN "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?"
MARY WELLS "My Guy" "You Beat Me To The Punch"
SMOKEY ROBINSON AND THE MIRACLES "I Second That Emotion" "The Tears of a Clown"
MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS "Dancing in the Street" "Heat Wave"
THE FOUR TOPS "Baby I Need Your Loving" "Reach Out I'll Be There"
THE JACKSON FIVE "I Want You Back" "I'll Be There"
Oh, hell, just use them all!
There's not one bad song in the whole catalogue.
