Like playing Guitar Hero, only REAL: Slash, Tom Morello, Les Claypool onstage early this morning at the Parish.
Click on this shit for the full effect.
Holy double motherfuck. New York, I have so much to tell you about this thing they call South By Southwest, but this comes first. I saw Slash early this morning at The Parish, a club with the capacity of 450. Slash! Totally unannounced and crazy. He was onstage in that Appetite For Destruction hat, cigarette dangling from his lips, pubic head-hair in full effect, wnka-wnka-wnkaing away on his guitar. Did I mention this was a totally on-the-downlow Tom Morello solo show booked only as The Nightwatchman? And that Morello also brought out Perry Fuckin' Farrell? And Wayne Kramer from MC5? And Les Claypool? And -- I have no idea how this happened -- Alexi Murdoch? And Extreme embarrassment once-embarrassment (see comments) Nuno Bettencourt? And some other dude who looked like Duff McKagan (later update: who turned out to be the guitarist from the Satellite Party), but wasn't? And they fuckin' played "Kick Out the Jams." And Jane's Addiction's "Ain't No Right." And Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Our Land." Give me a few minutes hours days to mainline some Red Bull (read: drink two Red Bulls, eat a bagel, make sure I'm not getting kicked out of my hotel, shower, and drive to Austin downtown, then find WiFi) and I'll tell you more.
Fuckyouandyourjadedcynicism: it was awesome.

Yes, that's Nuno Bettencourt on the left.

Why would you call Nuno an "embarrassment"??? Nuno is the best!!

I agree. Nuno is one of the all time greats, and im not referring to the guys abilty to just play the guitar. I understand completely how seeing Perry and Nuno on the same stage might seem like an odd pairing.
However, a simple google search of either Perry's or Nuno's name would maybe do some good when writing a review or article such as this one.
Why? Because that search would reveal that Perry and Nuno ARE IN A FRIGGIN BAND TOGETHER!. Also, i believe they played SXSW either the night before or the night after. There new record comes out May 15th i think via Sony.
Check out the Satellite Party Myspace page or the AOL first listen area for music and more.
First you dub Nuno as the "Extreme Embarassment" only to type a phrase like -
"Fuckyouandyourjadedcynicism: it was awesome."

Extreme embarrassment indeed!? Nuno's the most talented person on that stage by a longshot. Oh, & that 'some other guy' is Carl Restivo. ...sounds like a shoody excuse for journalism to me 'dude'.

Dude, I'm from Boston, former home of Extreme. And back in the "More than Words" day, Nuno was an Extreme embarrassment.
But I saw him later on the in the week with the Satellite Party and I admit, he's gotten kind of cool. So there, I amended my original statement.

And this looks like the set.
But really; watch Tom.

Here's a link to the Perry Farrell, Slash, Tom Morello performance of two Jane's Addiction songs. This was shot on HD and has decent sound unlike the YouTube clip.

Yeah, Nuno's reinventing himself -- which is very cool.
Also check out his other bands since Extreme (Mourning Widows, Population 1 and DramaGods)
There's some free downloads and videos at the DramaGods myspace site:

I love how everyone knows music, but has no clue how gr8 nuno really is. Repeat, how gr8 nuno really is. Yes, this is the man who disappeared, but still made "awesome" music with other bands. Face it, the future looks bright 4 more satellite party. Lets hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ace<3
