No Persuasion Necessary: Ciaran Hinds

Mmm, weathered

As the theater world prepares for the fall season, every day brings new emails and letters trumpeting new productions. Plenty are exciting, but few make my breath come faster. One of the latter was the details concerning the American premiere of Conor McPherson's The Seafarer, a play I'm devastated I missed during it's London run. I've admired McPherson for years, when he wrote monologues rather than multiple character works. (The initial attraction: I read a play of his about a theater critic who becomes a vampire. What can I say? I identified. I also admire him for not laughing at me some years later when I did a phone interview with him and attempted to engage him with my copious British slang. I was younger then.) The Seafarer concerns a card game at which one of the players may be that first antagonist, Satan. He'll be played by Ciaran Hinds. Gorgeous casting. Performances at the Booth, begin October 30th. See you at the stage door!
