Nuggets From Kickass Pam Grier
My column this week details a gay weekend in Atlantic City, including a meet-and-greet with L Word actors like Pam Grier, the glam star of '70s blaxploitation flicks who keeps on kicking ass.
I'll share with you the extra nuggets the gorgeous Pam gave me.
What has she been doing since The L Word? "That show lives on in perpetuity," she said. "The messages about women and the great stuff I learned about the lesbian, bi, and bicurious community."
But she's been busy anyway, having finished her memoirs, in addition to filming the role of Queen Latifah's mother in a movie called Just Wright. Hmm, that's not straying very from that community!
Working with Quentin Tarantino on 1997's Jackie Brown? Amazing, Pam said. "And he was working on writing Inglourious Basterds back then. He told me about it!"
And in 2002, Pam said, Halle Berry optioned Foxy Brown--Pam's old vehicle about a kickass nurse battling a drug ring--but she ended up doing Catwoman instead. "Bad idea," I screeched and Pam playfully put her finger to her lips.
Her fondest wish? "I'm hoping the Smithsonian will call me for the dress from Foxy Brown. The blue one with the ruffles. I'm holding onto it. Call me, Smithsonian!"
But she also wants to bring down Bin Laden and cracked to me, "I saw him in a casino the other day. I can take him out!" More importantly, she'll look fierce while doing so.
