Olive Oil: The New Salt/Oyster/Cod/Blow

In this week's New Yorker, there's a typically New Yorker-esque article (interesting and boring all at once!) about the dark business of olive oil fraud. Did you know that people smuggle hazelnut oil from Turkey to Italy and pass it off as extra-virgin olive oil? Remember that article about the fake handbag crime rings the New Yorker published a few months back? It's kind of like that. Olive oil is about as profitable as cocaine, yet this "slippery" business doesn't involve the same kind of risk. Tom Mueller, who wrote the article, is working on a book.
