Website Sends Slice of the Pie to Israeli Soldiers
posted: 9:46 PM, July 24, 2006 by Michael Roston

While some New Yorkers were delivering a letter to the U.S. mission to the U.N. asking America to stop the war in Lebanon, and thousands of Jews in Los Angeles mounted a demonstration in support of Israel’s response to Hezbollah’s attacks, a synagogue in Overland Park, Kansas, was preparing another response to the brutal conflict in the Middle East--collecting money to send pizzas to members of the Israeli Defense Force.

The suburban Kansas City congregation is collecting donations for Pizza IDF, a service working to ensure that people all over the world can show their support for the Israeli Defense Force by delivering a hot, fresh pizza to troops who might otherwise be eating rations in a jeep.

PizzaLogo2web.jpg

Through a website, customers can buy a pizza for members of the IDF with a simple credit card transaction--just like ordering a sandwich from the wired deli down the street.

Pizza IDF claims on its website that it has "delivered many thousands of pizza pies and other gifts to thousands of soldiers."  Through a sister website, Burger IDF, they also deliver hamburgers. The sites promise all of the food is kosher--no cheeseburgers, no pepperoni.

BurgerLogo3web.jpg

The service was launched in 2002 during Operation Defensive Shield, a response by the Israeli military to a Palestinian suicide bombing. Pizza IDF puts its politics upfront, declaring that it hopes to offer IDF members "a much needed moral boost by demonstrating support from around the world and at the same time providing people outside of Israel with a way to express their solidarity with Israel and her soldiers." Military duty is compulsory for Israeli men and women, who face two to three years of time in the force.

At the urging of its customers, Pizza IDF has already wandered into some interesting political territory. The service delivers pizza and hamburgers to Gush Katif families, former residents of the Gaza Strip settlements that were emptied of Israelis by the IDF last year during then prime minister Ariel Sharon’s withdrawal from the Palestinian territory. Many Gush Katif are still living in temporary housing.

Pizza IDF claims it coordinates deliveries with security services. Troops patrolling the much targeted northern city of Haifa can get a hot slice, but the soldiers now reportedly entering southern Lebanon shouldn't expect a Kalashnikov-dodging deliveryman on a motorbike to bring them a bag full of burgers. Michael Roston is a New York-based writer and a morning editor for The Raw Story.

We should take the bodies of the slain Hezbollah soldiers and turn them into the toppings we put on the pizza that we feed to our troops. That way they can literally eat our enemy!

These people should be shot for supporting IDF terrorism.

Posted by: at July 25, 2006 10:51 AM

So, Shlomo, is human flesh no longer treyf?

Jews are now canibals?

Well, I guess that makes sense, considering what they are doing to Lebanese children.

Oh what fun! Another upbeat, feelgood, human-interest story from the world's current charnel house of the week.
Good Gracious; "Many Gush Katif are still living in temporary housing"! Is there no justice in this world?
Someone should protest...

Can you guys collect donations and deliver peace to your soldiers and citizens

Posted by: Mohammed at July 25, 2006 12:07 PM

Ah, nothing like some good old fashioned Jew bashing coupled with a healthy does of historical ignorance. My advice to all of you---GO READ A DAMNED HISTORY BOOK!!!!
My dear Thomas, congratulations. You're my new definition of stupidity. Was it the IDF who went into southern Lebanon and forced innocent Lebanese men, women, and children to hide rockets, missiles, and other weapons in their homes, effectively forcing them into collaboration? Was it the Jews who have been indiscriminately firing rockets into their own northern territories for the past 6 years? Who put the Lebanese people in harm's way again? And who is dropping leaflets all over southern Lebanon right now, warning the inhabitants of impending air and land strikes, urging them to seek safety? Do you know the answer to any of these questions?

My guess would be no...

And to whoever wrote that little comment about alleged "IDF terrorism" I have this to ask...Do you know anything about the Camp David Accords in 2000? Do you know anything about the offers made to Yasir Arafat at those discussions, which included former Pres. Clinton? The Palestinians were offered everything that they had demanded of Israel, including their own sovereign (that's right, sovereign, look it up in the dictionary lads) territory in exchange for one little thing---PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PEACE!! PEACE!! PEACE!! PEACE!! No more terrorism, no more Hamas, no more jihad! Land for peace. That's all they wanted in return.
Yet what did Yasir Arafat say? He said NO!
And in return for their offers and hopes for peace, Israel was greeted with the second intifada, or in simpler terms, a wave of suicide bombings that killed over 1,000 innocent Israelis...people riding on buses, going to work, taking a walk in the park. Not one of whom was standing there shooting and throwing rocks at muslims living in the palestinian refugee camps, as is so often the case in reverse.
How can anyone draw an equivocation between hatemongering terrorists and those who desire peace?

Education and knowledge are the only solutions, the only weapons that will truly set this troubled and precious region of the world free from hate, intolerance and endless bloodshed.

Kate,
It was Israeli soldiers who crossed the border. They were in the town of Aitaa-al-Chaab INSIDE Lebanese border when they were captured.

On Camp David 2000:
Israel’s Camp David proposal, which was never set forth in writing, denied the Palestinian state viability and independence by dividing Palestinian territory into four separate cantons entirely surrounded, and therefore controlled, by Israel. The Camp David proposal also denied Palestinians control over their own borders, airspace and water resources while legitimizing and expanding illegal Israeli colonies in Palestinian territory. Israel’s Camp David proposal presented a ‘re-packaging’ of military occupation, not an end to military occupation.

Yes, education and knowledge.

Wow, Kate. Very well put.

Posted by: at July 25, 2006 3:12 PM

Mohammed, your history lesson is missing a lot of information. For one, the recent attacks started from a simple prisoner exchange: 2 IDF soldiers for over 400 Palestinian and Lebanese hostages. Olmert was warned of this before the prisoners were taken, and he gave no response preventing their capture.

Also, Israel has tried to colonize Lebanon in the past and is currently colonizing the Gaza Strip. This fact plus the imbalance between Lebanon's actions and the IDF's response suggest imperialistic reasons for the attacks.

Lastly, counter to what you suggest, sending Lebanese civilians into exile before the IDF bombs their homes is neither a humanitarian nor excusable action.

Posted by: Tracy at July 25, 2006 3:13 PM

Mohammad: Israel has had almost 60 years to deal responsibly with the Arabs it took the Land from, and still refuses to.

The Talmud says it wasn't the Gentiles who took the land from the Jews, it was G-d himself, because of Israel's unrighteousness.

If you think HaShem is going to let Israel - of all people - get away with acting like Nazi Germany, you don't know a thing about the G-d of Israel!

Correction, I was responding to kate's post, not Mohammed's. Thanks, T.

Posted by: Tracy at July 25, 2006 6:48 PM

I guess the 4 UN observers who were struck and killed by an Israeli missile today were hiding rockets for Hizballah! These people who claim that all Lebanese deserver what they're not getting from Israel because they're all in it together sound precisely like Nazi sympathizers from the 30's. "They all deserve it"...Even Kate suggests that little children are "hiding rockets" for Hizballah. What kind of sickness do you suffer from? I'm an American who served in the first Persian Gulf war and I can tell you that I hope every day that I wake that Iran has stuck a nuke up Israel's ass. They're simple thugs and those who line up behind them in defense are no better. Killing innocent women and children, bombing entire families out of existence is TERRORISM, no matter how you slice it. Only thing is, Israel seems to be much more proficient at dispensing terror. They have much bigger bombs.

Posted by: Matt at July 25, 2006 8:06 PM

People like Kate suffer from misinformation and being told lies after lies by the sick media.

This attack was provoked and started by Israel. The zionists have been planning this all along. Besides the arrest of two Israeli terrorists inside Lebanon border (btw, this was not reported by your mainstream media) another evidence has just surfaced:
"Lebanese intelligence services have arrested a spy network working for Israel since long years ago, Lebanese A-Safir daily newspaper reported Saturday....One of the prominent figures in the network confessed that Israel has put itself on the alert 4 days before arrest of the two Israeli soldiers ..."
http://www.sana.org/eng/22/2006/07/22/50010.htm

I repeat, 4 days before the capture of the two Israeli terrorist, Israel has put itself on alert!

Posted by: San Diablo at July 26, 2006 1:18 AM

Oh no! Those poor Israelis might have to eat rations!

I wonder what the Lebanese kids are eating (besides rockets)

Posted by: piltdown at July 26, 2006 1:26 AM

It's so unfortunate that the hate continues to divide us all. There are mistakes on both sides. Killing on both sides and "reasons" for the action of both sides. If we continue to debate/argue/kill over those reasons, than we have not evolved as human beings. As a Jew, I've always been taught peace, NEVER hate. However, my anger rages high when I take into account all that has happened since 1948 in Israel and the bitching and complaining now made by the same people who attacked a soveriegn nation multiple times to "drive us into the sea"(forget my anger as it relates to Egyptian Slavery, the Roman Empire, the Inquisition/Crusades, Nazi Germany, Stalinist USSR etc.). But if we are going to move forward, then we must have leadership and a capacity to forgive. It's time for solutions and it's time for responsible leadership on both sides to discuss solutions. But in order for there to be responsible leadership, terror and extremism must stop. Israel will negotiate in good faith (they negotiated a lasting peace with Egypt, they pulled out of Gaza, yes?), but if the terror continues, then the parties responsible should accept the direct and indirect consequences of their actions. Sit and negotiate in good faith or suffer...the choice is truly that of Arab leadership. We've had peace with other Arab neighbors even with a sordid history. It can be done wrt the Palestinian issue/Lebanon but not with current Arab leadership. Discussion of the past or even of current events is only a symptom of the problem-Extremism and a lack of understanding and respect for our fellow man. Why can Christians, Muslims, Jews live in Haifa in peace? Respect. Undertanding. Tolerance. Do the extremists (on both sides) have the capacity for these traits in their character? I sincerely hope so...

"Ah, nothing like some good old fashioned Jew bashing coupled with a healthy does of historical ignorance. "

Posted by: Larry at July 26, 2006 10:43 AM

Jay,
You said, "sit and negotiate in good faith...?" It's up to the Arabs? Consider this, these are the words of Alexander Cockburn, a writer at counterpunch.com:
...June 9, 2006, Israel shelled a beach in Beit Lahiya killing 8 civilians and injuring 32.
...And we trip over the bodies of twenty dead and forty-seven wounded, all of them Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Israel regrets… But no! Israel doesn’t regret in the least. Most of the time it doesn’t even bother to pretend to regret. It says, “We reserve the right to slaughter Palestinians whenever we want. We reserve the right to assassinate their leaders, crush their homes, steal their water, tear out their olive groves, and when they try to resist we call them terrorists intent on wrecking the ‘peace process’”.

Now Israel says it wants to wipe out Hezbollah. It wishes no harm to the people of Lebanon, just so long as they’re not supporters of Hezbollah, or standing anywhere in the neighborhood of a person or a house or a car or a truck or a road or a bus or a field, or a power station or a port that might, in the mind of an Israeli commander or pilot, have something to do with Hezbollah. In any of those eventualities all bets are off. You or your wife or your mother or your baby get fried.

Israel regrets… But no! As noted above, it doesn’t regret in the least. Neither does George Bush, nor Condoleezza Rice nor John Bolton who is the moral savage who brings shame on his country each day that he sits as America’s ambassador (unconfirmed) at the UN and who has just told the world that a dead Israel civilian is worth a whole more in terms of moral outrage than a Lebanese one.

None of them regrets.... Go to the website fromisraeltolebanon.info and take a look. Then sign the petition on the site calling on the governments of the world to stop this barbarity.

You can say that Israel brought Hezbollah into the world. You can prove it too, though this too involves another frightening excursion into history.

This time we have to go far, almost unimaginably far, back into history. Back to 1982, when the neo-cons who at that time had already crawled from the primal slime and were doing exactly what they are doing now: advising an American president to give Israel the green light to “solve its security problems” by destroying Lebanon.

In 1982 Israel had a problem. Yasir Arafat, headquartered in Beirut, was making ready to announce that the PLO was prepared to sit down with Israel and embark on peaceful, good faith negotiations towards a two-state solution.

Israel didn’t want a two-state solution, which meant -- if UN resolutions were to be taken seriously -- a Palestinian state right next door, with water, and contiguous territory. So Israel decided chase the PLO right out of Lebanon. It announced that the Palestinian fighters had broken the year-long cease-fire by lobbing some shells into northern Israel.

Palestinians had done nothing of the sort. I remember this very well, because Brian Urquhart, at that time assistant secretary general of the United Nations, in charge of UN observers on Israel’s northern border, invited me to his office on the 38th floor of the UN hq in mid-Manhattan and showed me all the current reports from the zone. For over a year there’d been no shelling from north of the border. Israel was lying.

With or without a pretext Israel wanted to invade Lebanon. So it did, and rolled up to Beirut. It shelled Lebanese towns and villages and bombed them from the air. Sharon’s forces killed maybe 20,000 people, and let Lebanese Christians slaughter hundreds of Palestinian refugees in the camps of Sabra and Chatilla.

The killing got so bad that even Ronald Reagan awoke from his slumbers and called Tel Aviv to tell Israel to stop. Sharon gave the White House the finger by bombing Beirut at the precise times -- 2.42 and 3.38 -- of two UN resolutions calling for a peaceful settlement on the matter of Palestine.

When the dust settled over the rubble, Israel bunkered down several miles inside Lebanese sovereign territory, which it illegally occupied, in defiance of all UN resolutions, for years, supervising a brutal local militia and running its own version of Abu Graibh, the torture center at the prison of Al-Khiam.

Occupy a country, torture its citizens and in the end you face resistance. In Israel’s case it was Hezbollah, and in the end Hezbollah ran Israel out of Lebanon, which is why a lot of Lebanese regard Hezbollah not as terrorists but as courageous liberators.

The years roll by and Israel does its successful best to destroy all possibility of a viable two-state solution. It builds illegal settlements. It chops up Palestine with Jews-only roads. It collars all the water. It cordons off Jerusalem. It steals even more land by bisecting Palestinian territory with its “fence”. Anyone trying to organize resistance gets jailed, tortured, or blown up.

Sick of their terrible trials, Palestinians elect Hamas, whose leaders make it perfectly clear that they are ready to deal on the basis of the old two-state solution, which of course is the one thing Israel cannot endure. Israel doesn’t want any “peaceful solution” that gives the Palestinians anything more than a few trashed out acres surrounded with barbed wire and tanks, between the Israeli settlements whose goons can murder them pretty much at will.

So here we are, 24 years after Sharon did his best to destroy Lebanon in 1982, and his heirs are doing it all over again. Since they can’t endure the idea of any just settlement for Palestinians, it’s the only thing they know how to do. Call Lebanon a terror-haven and bomb it back to the stone age. Call Gaza a terror-haven and bomb its power plant, first stop on the journey back to the stone age. Bomb Damascus. Bomb Teheran.

Of course they won’t destroy Hezbollah. Every time they kill another Lebanese family, they multiply hatred of Israel and support for Hezbollah. They’ve even unified the parliament in Baghdad, which just voted unanimously -- Sunnis and Shi’ites and Kurds alike -- to deplore Israel’s conduct and to call for a ceasefire.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these little excursions into history, even though history is dangerous, which is why the US press gives it a wide birth. But even without the benefit of historical instruction, a majority of Americans in CNN’s instant poll –- about 55 per cent out of 800,000 as of midday, July 19 -- don’t like what Israel is up to.

Dislike is one thing, but at least in the short term it doesn’t help much. Israel’s 1982 attack on Lebanon grew unpopular in the US, after the first few days. But forcing the US to pressure Israel to settle the basic problem takes political courage, and virtually no US politician is prepared to buck the Israel lobby, however many families in Lebanon and Gaza may be sacrificed on the altar of such cowardice.

“Bull’s-eye”: 4 U.N. Peacekeepers killed in Israel’s Targeted Assassination .

Israel is now planning to step up its bombing campaign in the vain hope that it will root-out and destroy the resistance. This explains why the United Nations outpost was "deliberately" leveled by an Israeli missile yesterday. Clearly, Israel wants to conceal its orgy of carnage from the watchful eyes of international community. We should expect that more banned weaponry; cluster-bombs, napalm, lasers, bunker busters and chemical weapons will be used in the next major assault on Hezbollah strongholds. Like all desperate men, Olmert believes that he can extract himself from his present dilemma by increasing the level of violence

Apparently, Mr. Ramon believes that there is such a thing as good genocide, which - if I recall correctly - is still generally considered both a war crime, and a crime against humanity by truly civilized countries

On Israel, We Must Never Be Silent - by Jonathan Tasini.

http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0727-22.htm

When I announced that I was entering the race for the US Senate, I began with a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” ....
...The problem is not the debate in Israel. The problem is the debate—or lack thereof—in the United States. We should not allow the power brokers in Washington, DC to silence the voices of people who love Israel but are willing to stand up and be critical of its policies...
I feel great sorrow that Israel is an occupier of another people and I believe that Israel can never be whole and can never be at peace until that occupation is ended in a just way.

If all the Arabs laid down their weapons there would be NO VIOLENCE in the Middle East. If all the Jews laid down their weapons there be no Israel.

Posted by: Mike Paron at August 3, 2006 9:24 AM

What matters here is who is the enemy. Hezbollah is the ENEMY of anything non Islamic. It is an violent Islamic agency that intends to impose Islamic law in the Middle East now and ultimately on the whole world.

Do you understand what Islamic Law means? Look at what Afganistan was under the Taliban: no freedom, everything regulated by the Koran, unequal law for men & women, ugly clothes for women, beards for men, no music, no wine, no art (drawing is forbidden). You have to pray 5 times a day and you have to tithe. There might be minor variations under Hezbollah's Shia version of Islamic evil (look at Iran:miniature drawings of Shia saints allowed) but the essence is the same.

People who want to impose this on the world are evil and need to be defeated by any means necessary:preferably killed. People who tolerate Hezbollah amoung them are going to get killed just like non-Nazi Germans died in World War 2. This is a matter of survival.
