RIP, Rue McClanahan
Rue McClanahan, who so memorably vamped it up as the narcissistic but lovable Southern belle Blanche on Golden Girls, is now in the sit-com land in the sky.
She brought endless wit and joy to that show, zesting up a part Betty White was originally pegged for. But Betty wasn't thrilled to play another sexpot, having already done so on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. When she switched roles with Rue, the result was magic.
And Rue, of course, had already demonstrated master-class chemistry with Beatrice Arthur on the daring show Maude.
The woman broke so much ground, all while entertaining and captivating.
More pressure on Betty: You're the only Golden Girl left, honey!
