I'm glad to hear that Randi Rhodes wasn't really mugged, but only fell while walking her dog. I know you libs are disappointed, because you always want to believe the worst, but muggings are traumatic and I wouldn't want to wish that on any one.

Kind of strange how this story got legs though? Kind of like the phony soldier story, or the Bush draft dodger story, or Bush blew up the world trade center etc. etc.

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! She even fails at causing a controversy!

I would not jump to the conclusion that she 'just fell down', based on her lawyer's statements

Elliott's account of the incident, however, was contested Tuesday by Rhodes attorney, Robert Gaulin.

Gaulin confirmed that Rhodes was injured after she was floored by someone _ or something _ as she strolled the streets of Manhattan's Murray Hill district around 8 p.m., but wasn't sure herself what sent her tumbling to the pavement.

"She hit her head on the street and was disoriented," Gaulin said. "She's not sure what happened. She didn't see anything." He added that she never reported the incident to police."

"She's OK. She needs a little dental work, and that's all," he said. "I spoke with Randi. She said that it happened, it took her by surprise and it's over," he said."

IMHO, this does not rule out the possibility it was a hate crime, simply that it had not been reported to the authorities and it appears no other witnesses came forward to identify the actual timeline of events or individual(s) involved. I wonder if she came to on her own, or if someone walking by found her unconscious body and called for an ambulance or fired dept.

Wait until Randi has a chance to gather her wits and collect all the evidence, if any. Then we may learn if this was a simple stumble or something more brutally premeditated.

My office mate told me of his friend that was riding a subway escalator up while across from him a stranger was riding a downward escalator. The other guy was a big and burly while slightly wild eyed. The stranger reached across and punched my friend's friend throwing him back and down the escalator, broke his jaw and banged up his head badly. Random act of violence or mistaken identity. The friend never found out who it was or why it happened.

On her show today Ms Rhodes kinda-sorta confirmed the Gawker article yesterday; she said she'd been watching TV at an Irish pub, walked outside for a breath of air, and the next thing she knew she was on the sidewalk with a bloody mouth and missing teeth. "Either I fainted or someone shoved me and kept going, I don't know which."

She sounds completely mortified by the wild speculation by her replacement host Monday. I would suggest she take a brick bat to Elliot but I'm kind of bloody-minded about these things. Hope she feels better soon.
