Sarah Jewler Remembered
Sarah Jewler, New York magazine's managing editor and a former managing editor at the Voice, died last night at 56.
Jewler had been ill for some time with a rare blood disease that recently turned into leukemia, said New York spokeswoman Serena Torrey. Jewler had recently taken a leave of absence to prepare for a bone marrow transplant, and died in her sleep at the Tribeca home she shared with husband Jay Kennedy.
A private memorial service for Jewler's family is being planned for this weekend on Long Island's North Shore, and New York plans a memorial event in the near future.
Jewler went directly to New York from the Voice 10 years ago.
"Managing editor is a notoriously difficult job to do, and Sarah was one of the very best," recalled New York editor Adam Moss. "She made things happen and made people love their work. She was an unusually good listener and den mother and was devoted to this magazine for the last 10 years, and she will be very, very missed."
