Silence at Ground Zero
The protest at Ground Zero this morning was unbearably sad. Around 30 people were lined up with anti-war signs, presided over by an equal number of cops. The coffins they had fashioned were nothing but stuffed garbage bags, dragged on litters of cardboard. "I think this is an indictment of the stupidity of American fundamentalists," said Jeff, 36. "I'm going back to Portland, Ecotopia. We just elected a mayor whose maximum contribution in his race was $25. I'm going to try to effect change on the local level." Judith, 24, is visiting from France. "I think people [in Europe] will have even worse vision of America. Now there's no excuse. You saw the truth and you voted for him anyway...I think it's sad. People are more angry and more scared."
