The Roxy Will Reopen!
But not as the Roxy!
The fabled gay dance palace where I spent so many woozy years will be razed and rebuilt as the 2000-person Eden Ballroom, a gigantic lounge-cum-restaurant-cum-event space.
At least there's an application for that to happen, but as the below sign currently posted outside the joint tells you, there's a movement to stop Eden from ever becoming a reality.
And I'm hearing that Barry Diller, the Chairman of IAC, which has the neighboring Frank Gehry-designed building, is at the head of the pooh-pooh parade.
He thinks a big, noisy, possibly unattractive nightclub could cheapen his own real estate, and he's probably right.
So spies say that Barry wouldn't mind buying the building and turning it into TV production studios plus an extension of IAC's event space.
I wish he'd buy it and make it the Roxy again!
