Vivien Leigh Just Got Cast as Scarlett O'Hara!
Oh, hush. Bear with me, if you please.
Let's pretend it's 1939 and Vivien Leigh just bagged the female lead in Gone with The Wind over the other top candidates, like Paulette Goddard, Joan Bennett, and Jean Arthur, not to mention less likely people like Lucy and Tallulah.
This is insanity! I mean, yeah, I liked Viv well enough in Look Up and Laugh and Storm in a Teacup, and I like that Olivier kid she's dating, but that doesn't qualify her for the juiciest role in screen history. There's no way the little upstart can handle this mammoth assignment of melodrama, sweep, and romance, and bring it the fiery star power it requires.
And how can a Brit even play Southern anyway?
What the fuck is Selznick thinking???
