When Judy Garland Met Barbra Streisand
In 1963, the two most powerful figures in the world got together and exchanged views. No, not JFK and Castro. I'm talking Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand! This legendary clip from Judy's TV show has the older diva singing a plaintive "Get Happy" as the brassy upstart wails "Happy Days Are Here Again" in creamy counterpoint. In duetting with dueling cheer-up songs, the ladies rip your heart out, trotting out two generations of pathos-drenched brilliance. Their titillating twosome can be read as a contest, a contrast, a lovefest, or a passing of a tawdry torch. In any case, it's enough to turn you gay. In fact, in my case it did!
