Who to Call if Your Vote Gets Screwed Up
Election Protection, the main coalition monitoring polling places for vote suppression, is maintaining a hotline, 1 866 OUR VOTE, for people who need immediate legal assistance with a voting problem. The line is already staffed with volunteers. There's another hotline, 1 866 MYVOTE 1, which can help you find your polling place or connect you with your State Board of Elections to report incidents. The system, initially conceived by Dem political consultant Ken Smukler and funded by a range of nonpartisan orgs, can handle 40,000 calls an hour, recording them all for instant sorting and searching by a computer database. MoveOn is distributing cards with these numbers, reminding people to write down anything that happens, including the place, time, and names of the people involved.
