Whoopi Goldberg Honored At HRC Gala
The Greater New York's HRC (Human Rights Campaign) gala at the Waldorf was a big old gay jamboree, with the theme "Make Equality Count" firing up everyone from the silent auction through the dinner speakers and beyond.
One of the honorees was Whoopi Goldberg, who's been quite progressive on the air, and who gave me a big old hug and complimented me on my red jacket.
(Everyone was in black except for me, which at first made me feel like Jezebel, but then just made me feel special. When it comes to fashion, equality just doesn't work.)
But back to the fabulosity of black: Whoopi told me the documentary she wants to do about legendary comic Moms Mabley--who's pictured below--is moving forward, and I couldn't be happier about that.
Moms paved the way!
During the cocktail hour, I also learned that:
*Some of the editorial people at John Wiley & Sons Publishing got absorbed by google and are apparently now getting better salaries.
*There might be an LGBT Museum someday, done in conjunction with the Smithsonian.
*And Cheyenne Jackson heard about my upcoming singing gig, which I joked to him was a nightmare. He gave me the best advice: "Face your fears!"
So true. Maybe that should be the next HRC slogan.
