  • Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises

Pier 83 New York, NY 10036
    212-563-3200

http://www.circleline42.com The Circle Line is perfect during the spring and summer. The weather is nice, which makes the tour enjoyable. It's also not bad during the winter. Why? Because not a lot of people want to be on a boat on the Hudson in 15-degree weather. The rates are cheap, the views are breathtaking, and the guides are funny and well informed. All in all, it is a great deal. Just donat go for a swim. More >>

  • NBC Studio Tour

30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10020
    212-664-3700

http://www.nbc.com The NBC Studio Tour is a little expensive, but fun. If you're lucky, you may catch a Saturday Night Live rehearsal. (The odds are in your favor during the fall and spring.) Unless something is under construction, you will see all of the sets for the shows filmed here in NYC, including the news programs. Their website often is overloaded, so it's better to phone. • Tobacco Road

    Tobacco Road

    355 W. 41st St. New York, NY 10036
    212-244-4408

http://www.tobaccoroadnyc.com Tobacco Road bills itself as Manhattan's "most down-to-earth rock-and-roll venue." We're not sure how down-to-earth bikini-clad waitresses and midget strippers are—both of which it also bills—but there is something charmingly pugnacious about the dank backroom stage and free hot dogs. If anything, the bar menu consisting of three drink options—beer on tap, beer in a bottle, and beer in a can—indicates a nod to Hell's Kitchen's sordid past (and lingeringly sordid present). Located in that perpetually grimy, seemingly ungentrify-able block behind Port Authority Bus Terminal, it is a lasting landmark for those who love their dives and cheap, hard rock shows. More >>

  • World Yacht Marina

Pier 81 New York, NY 10036
    212-630-8100

http://www.worldyacht.com The ride and views are worth the $75 per person starting price, for a special occasion. And it can be really romantic, if it needs to be. More >>
