Huckleberry Bar

Huckleberry Bar

Joining joints like Jimmy's #43 and Cantina, Huckleberry is one of those bars that offer amazing food made in equipment-challenged micro-kitchens.

The Forum, one of the few lounges in Union Square territory, brings peace during the weekdays and boisterous partying on the weekends. Saturdays, for example, require plus-sized bouncers to monitor the swarms of cocktail-craving, dancing citizens.
Company Bar

Company Bar

If the hockey jerseys lining the walls at Company Bar don't draw you in, the great food and unpretentious atmosphere surely will. Stop by any night of the week for a refreshing round of hot wings and cold drinks.

  • The New VIP Club

    20 W. 20th St. New York, NY 10011
212-633-1199 This club is a bit classier than many, so don't try to get in wearing ripped jeans. The dancers are beautiful and coordinated, and a suprising number have their natural breasts, making them even more appealing. In an effort to complement their raw women, VIP serves raw fish, so check out the sushi bar if you're hungry. If not, and if you have no intention of hitting VIP but are feeling kinda kinky, go to their website and see what interesting things a young woman can do with two large carrots. The party takes place on Fridays when doors open at 8 p.m. If you don't get there before 11:30 p.m., the doors will close and you will have to find another place where some sexy man will pour hot wax on your nipples in the early morning light. In order to get in, you either need to be a member, or print out an invite found on their website. Admission costs are minimal: $15 for members, $20 for non-members. • Niagara

    112 Ave. A New York, NY 10009
212-420-9517 In an area where every bar has some sort of sweet gimmick, Niagara has, well... alcohol. With graffiti-covered walls, tin ceilings, and blaring rock 'n' roll music, it's definitely a dive (as the Joe Strummer mural outside hints). However, it isn't the stripped-down, $2 PBR kind. Order a gin and tonic, for instance, and the bartender will respond, "What kind of gin? You gotta work with me here." Furthermore, there are high ceilings and (surprise!) overall cleanliness, given that the place's old attractions--a grittier layout and spontaneous dance parties in the basement--were removed after recent renovations. A convention-defying dive for the locals is always welcome. Read more about Niagara >>

  • Night Light Cafe

1657 Sheepshead Bay Road Brooklyn, NY 11235

Enjoy pizza, cocktails, and a game of pool while taking in various forms of live entertainment, from backward-baseball cap local bands and drunken karaoke singers to belly dancers, psychics, and acoustic open mics. • Nightingale Lounge

    Nightingale Lounge

213 Second Ave. New York, NY 10003
212-473-9398 The Nightingale Lounge looks intimidating from the outside, its windows and entrance barricaded by dark velvet drapery. But once you make it in, the lounge presents itself as an extension of your wealthy friend's tricked-out basement. In the back, there's a pool table; in the center, a popcorn machine. Plush couches line the right side of the room, while the left hosts a metallic bar with glowing, pink panels lining the wall. The East Village locale, however, generally seems to prefer quirkier, grittier hang-out spots, so it's up to you and your posse to populate Nightingale's small dance floor. Or coax the bartender to turn on that popcorn machine. Read more about Nightingale Lounge >>
