A loungey joint catering to professionals, Auction House puts itself on the block as a hip place with a good DJ who understands downtown styleaa rarity in the frat-bar-dominated Upper East Side. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
Ah, there's nothing like the feel of varnished wood to bring "Irish pub" to mind. They sprout up all over the country like shamrocks, and folks with interesting acents flock there to catch a "football" match and drink 18 pints. This pub is no different, and may be even a little bit better because some nights there's live music. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.brandysnyc.com Crowd into Brandy's narrow space and ham it up with the piano man, a true maestro who can whip out any tune you suggest, from Elton John to Carly Simon. The bar staff will sometimes break into song, and the maestro keeps loosening things up, as dirty jokes and sharp one-liners roll off his tongue. With a definite gay vibe, Brandy's is always a good time. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.comicstriplive.com Big. Professional. Expensive. This long-standing venue has launched many a comedy career, probably because thatas what it specializes in. That is, itas a ashowcasea club, which means they constantly audition new talent, sort it for quality, nurture it, and introduce it to agents and TV execs via regular showcases. Reservations are a good idea. Stand-up classes available. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.docwatsons.com There's an art to pouring and drawing Guinness properly from a tap; most bars in New York, even those that claim to be Irish pubs, fail miserably. But this homey, brick-walled hangout takes pride in its mastery of this particular skill. They also have a happy hour that lasts practically all day. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.dorrians.com Baseball buffs know and love Dorrianas. Thereas something about the red-and-white-checkered tablecloths thatas as lovable as the loyal Bronx Bomber fans who occupy them. The friendly guys, unfortunately, have their eyes glued to the TV and their hands wrapped around their beer glasses, so youare more likely to get hit on by one of the Manhattan rich kids who drop by late in the evening. Old-time dive bar Phil Hughes caters to the senior citizens' crowd, mostly, but these chronologically enhanced folks are often better company than the frat boys that populate most Upper East Side watering holes. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.saloonnyc.com With an almost exclusively white crowd, sporting pink polo shirts and fancy eye make-up, Saloon has all the requisite Upper East Side details: giant flat screen plasma TVs, DJs playing Nelly and Outkast, and a dance floor throbbing with well-manicured blondness. You know Tin Lizzie if A) You have a diploma, B) You live on the UES, C) You still want to feel like you're in college, and (optional) D) You want, but aren't sure how to get, a little booty for the night. I'd venture to say that D isn't gonna get accomplished after one trip, especially if your degree is post-graduate and you get disgusted at the dancing and Top-40 singing that erupts occasionally after midnight. Another tip for the diploma-wielding: "Tin Lizzie" was a nickname for Ford's Model T, introduced in October of 1908. "Lizzie" was a nickname for a dependable servant. Another reason not to go. http://www.trinitypubnyc.com Unlike most faux pubs in New York, Trinity really does feel like a place you'd stumble into in England. The comfy, rustic interior includes several good British beers on tap. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
http://www.uptownloungenyc.com Iad say this UES lounge (with 15 drafts and more than 40 wines by the glass) would be a great place to take a large party, but theyad have to tolerate the jewel-tones upholstered booths and tacky design in general. If it werenat for the young, white crowd of locals that takes over late at night, Iad expect a crooning piano man to be taking residence here. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
