Huckleberry Bar

Huckleberry Bar

Joining joints like Jimmy's #43 and Cantina, Huckleberry is one of those bars that offer amazing food made in equipment-challenged micro-kitchens.
Forum

Forum

The Forum, one of the few lounges in Union Square territory, brings peace during the weekdays and boisterous partying on the weekends. Saturdays, for example, require plus-sized bouncers to monitor the swarms of cocktail-craving, dancing citizens.
Company Bar

Company Bar

If the hockey jerseys lining the walls at Company Bar don't draw you in, the great food and unpretentious atmosphere surely will. Stop by any night of the week for a refreshing round of hot wings and cold drinks.

  • All American Male

289 Spring St. New York, NY 10013
    866-872-6366

http://www.all-american-male.com A last stop for bachelorette parties, strip joint All American Male tosses the anemic androgynous/hipster look for that of the corn-fed Midwesterner. Tall muscular men with leathery (but well-oiled) skin and thick necks saunter down the catwalk, wearing jeans so butt-tight you can see the freckles on their balls. Located on the fringes of Soho, these guys of every color give you something to feel patriotic about! Read more about this New York bar or club >>

    Brandy Library

25 N. Moore St. New York, NY 10013
    212-226-5545

http://www.brandylibrary.com Drawing Wall Street guys both old and youngish, the Brandy Library has a Ritz-Carlton lobby lounge vibe, plus schmaltzy touches like cocktail waitress alibrariansa traversing bottle-lined bookshelves on rolling ladders. But the menu features clever takes on bar food, like the miniature alligator burgers with fries and a abrandy shake,a a mix of bourbon, white chocolate liqueur, and cream ($14). Glasses of brandy and whiskey start at $12, and the special cocktails are delicacies too. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Broome Street Gallery

    Broome Street Gallery

498 Broome St. New York, NY 10013
    212-925-2086

Near an assortment of luxe little eateries, the Broome Street Bar sticks out as the neighborhood dive. It's as gritty as something in SoHo can get-which is to say, not very-and that's the charm of this place: a quant little Irish pub with the slightest edge. Within the bar's blackened interior, a stained-glass portrait of a heartbroken lass resides at its center, while off to the side, two eraser-marked chalkboards relay the day's featured drinks. The whole affair is pretty straightforward, as are the beers on tap: Stella Artois, Sierra Nevada, Bass, and Guinness for the leisurely regulars, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA for the pros. • Commodore East

97 Beach St. New York, NY 10013

http://www.rockawaybeachclub.com The Commodore proper is one of the most popular bars on the Metropolitan strip of Williamsburg. And they've expanded to the ocean--or, kind of. The bar has established an outpost at the Far Rockaways Beach Club. Called The Commodore East, the small proxy spot doesn’t offer the iced cocktails that are so popular in the 'burg, but it does offer the spicy chicken, nachos, salads and, perhaps best of all, pork boats--pulled pork sandwiches garnished with pickled slaw. The spot is, like the rest of the Beach Club, seasonal--and the hours vary then, too--but when it’s open and it’s a good beach day, a pork boat is just about the best seaside food you can get your hands on. Just make sure you go for a run afterwards. --Shane Barnes Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Dylan Prime

62 Laight New York, NY 10013
    212-334-4783

http://www.dylanprime.com This is the kind of after-work lounge where youad expect to see a watered-down, slightly diluted new-millennium Patrick Bateman. Extravagant list of cocktails and an elegant, plush lounge sets the tone for some sleek, well-lit flirtation but only if youave got the cash to bother paying for the space and drinks. • Ear Inn

    Ear Inn

326 Spring St. New York, NY 10013
    212-431-9750

http://www.earinn.com Ear Inn isn't very easy to find; it's tucked into a nondescript, dead-end corner near the Hudson, and the old-fashioned sign that just reads "BAR" doesn't help matters much. It's a cozy, offbeat little pub that's perfect for rainy nights; everything inside feels charming and lived-in, from the old metal signs adorning the walls to the dark wood tables covered in brown butcher paper. Strong drinks and live jazz round out the satisfying experience. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Emerald Pub

    Emerald Pub

308 Spring St. New York, NY 10013
    212-226-8512

http://www.emeraldpubnyc.com An Irish pub with scant Soho attitude, Emerald Pub quenches the thirst of the neighborhood's few proud non-fashionistas. Its location on one of uppity Spring Street's busiest blocks only augments the laid-back charm inside its walls; the gastropub lunch fare comes hot and reasonably priced, and the strongly poured well drinks are a bracing experience. • Félix

    340 W. Broadway New York, NY 10013
    212-431-0021

http://www.felixnyc.com A Brazilian flag and foosball table ushered us into the tin-ceilinged room at this Soho brunch spot, where bar towels and the obligatory French posters adorned the walls. Staying true to classic, we ordered Bloody Marys ($10), hoping they'd be the panacea for our morning-after blues. The carefree bartender joined in the party, grinning as he mixed our bloody elixirs after giving a final stir to pitchers of mojitos suddenly whisked away to a nearby table, where well-imbibed dudes divvied up their bounty and laughedathat is, until one of them caught an immediate buzzkill when he saw the check: "Mojito pitchers are $60 each?" So much for buying in bulk. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Greenhouse

    Greenhouse

150 Varick St. New York, NY 10013
    212-807-7000

http://www.greenhouseusa.com As the name suggests, Greenhouse is an environmentally conscious nightclub. There are only two of this name, one in SoHo and the other in Hollandale Beach, Florida. The joint was created with the intention of an all-green elegance from head to toe; bamboo walls, LED lights, water-less urinals to recycled bottles. The line for Greenhouse is sometimes lontg, but entering the two floor, 6,000 square feet club is an takes you, pretty much, into a rain forest (prepare yourself for actual moss on the walls). Since Greenhouse is a night club, Top 40 is unsurprisingly often the soundtrack, but hip-hop and EDM also sometimes slip into the rotation. Celebrities are known to make appearances because who doesn't want to save money, energy, and help the environment while out partying? --Briana Cheng Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Henrietta Hudson

    Henrietta Hudson

438 Hudson St. New York, NY 10014
    212-924-3347

http://www.henriettahudson.com Itas a conundrum how Henriettaas gets hundreds of stylishly dressed lesbians into its three small rooms weekly. Even squeezing past the pool table or ordering $9 cosmos at one of two overrun (albeit jovial) bars, girls love everything about this long-standing standard which looks better than ever since they renovated a while back. • Hogs & Heifers

    Hogs & Heifers

859 Washington St. New York, NY 10014
    212-929-0655

http://www.hogsandheifers.com This is one rowdy, beer-stained spot where women come to let it all hang out, whipping off their bras and adding them to the bar's hardy collection. This whole bra trick is the hallmark of Hogs & Heifers, which courts herds of tourists on weekends, all hoping to find out Julia Robert's cup size. For those fully dedicated to said cause, sexy lady bartenders also dance on the bar at very slight provocation. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Jimmy

    Jimmy

15 Thompson St. New York, NY 10013
    212-201-9118

http://www.jimmysoho.com Eighteen stories high, on top of the James hotel in Soho, Jimmy patrons sprawl out on mod furniture and sip cocktails ($17 each) with a twist: The Kitty Hawk features Hendrick's Gin; the Grapes of Wrath, cucumber vodka; and the Piglet has Knob Creek Bourbon, maple syrup, barbecue bitters, and peanut salt. With its moonshine and bay leaf, the Blair Witch certainly scared us a little. We settled for a simple pinot and the undeniably American view. From the bar's deck, One World Trade Center is thataway, and the Empire State Building is opposite. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
