Huckleberry Bar

Huckleberry Bar

Joining joints like Jimmy's #43 and Cantina, Huckleberry is one of those bars that offer amazing food made in equipment-challenged micro-kitchens.

The Forum, one of the few lounges in Union Square territory, brings peace during the weekdays and boisterous partying on the weekends. Saturdays, for example, require plus-sized bouncers to monitor the swarms of cocktail-craving, dancing citizens.
Company Bar

Company Bar

If the hockey jerseys lining the walls at Company Bar don't draw you in, the great food and unpretentious atmosphere surely will. Stop by any night of the week for a refreshing round of hot wings and cold drinks.

  • Bar Boulud

    Bar Boulud

1900 Broadway New York, NY 10023
212-595-0303 The emphasis is on a full catalog of French charcuterie at this rather grandiose wine bar, the fourth outpost of Daniel Boulud's culinary empire. We liked the pté grand-pere, a coarse Gallic liverwurst flavored with truffle juice and port, and also the Lyonnaise salami, made in-house according to a recipe from the chef's hometown, though the vaunted headcheese was decidedly sub-Batali. The charcuterie tasting includes an accompanying vegetable hors d'oeuvre, and represents a nifty feed for two. The location directly across from Lincoln Center attracts a staid crowd, but your parents will appreciate that when they pick up the hefty tab. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

Empire Hotel Rooftop Bar & Lounge

    44 W. 63rd St. New York, NY 10023
212-956-3313 The Empire Hotel Rooftop offers precisely what you'd expect from a high-end establishment of this caliber: beautiful 12th-floor views, a classy ambiance, and an elite crowd. The tastefully decorated rooftop is enclosed for year-round enjoyment, and the ornamentation is not to be forgotten. The bar offers a wide variety of cocktails that imbibers can enjoy while taking in spectacular views of the Upper West Side. The rooftop space is intimate, so long lines are standard. DJs play a wide range of music, mostly Top 40 and pop hits; some evenings there are live jazz performances during happy hour. --Gabriel Herrera Read more about this New York bar or club >>

80 Columbus Circle New York, NY 10023
212-805-8800 The Mandarin Oriental, located on floors 35 through 54 of the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle, represents the newest in hotel opulence. All 203 of the guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that show off views of Central Park, the Hudson River, or the Manhattan skyline. • Peter's

182 Columbus Ave. New York, NY 10023

It's hard to do the math on why Peter's, with its blah Upper West Side location and nothing-special interior, is a notorious pick-up spot for thirtysomethings on the prowl. Free hard-boiled eggs at the bar help patrons get their low-carb fix. Read more about this New York bar or club >>

  • Tavern on the Green

    Tavern on the Green

Central Park at W. 67th St. New York, NY 10023
212-873-3200 Originally created in 1870 as a pen for the sheep which grazed in the nearby meadow (Sheep's Meadow) in Central Park, Tavern on the Green was transformed into a restaurant in 1934 under the urging of the famous Parks Commissioner Robert Moses. In 1976, with a massive renovation by restaurateur Warner LeRoy, Tavern became what we know it as today: Central Park's own mini-Versailles, a tourist-sucking show palace of copious chandeliers, indoor topiaries, and antique murals. • Vince & Eddie

    Vince & Eddie's

    70 W. 68th St. New York, NY 10023
212-721-0068 Between snuggling by the fireplace during a winter storm, or enjoying a summer breeze on the patio, we can't figure out the best time of year to stop by Vince & Eddie's. During any season, though, expect cramped (intimate?) quarters at this neighborhood locale. Read more about this New York bar or club >>
