    Mojo Coffee

128 Charles St. New York, NY 10014-2537
    212-691-6656

http://www.mojo-nyc.com Deep in the West Village, Mojo Coffee offers a cozy, wood-paneled vibe (exposed brick, weathered vintage coffee cans) and free wifi--if you can snag a seat. Open and busy since early 2007, the cafe has endeared itself to the neighborhood with freshly roasted and brewed Rainforest Alliance-certified coffee and espresso, plus a range of hot drinks including a fresh ginger steamer made with honey and lemon. Add a changing selection of soups, big fresh salads, and sandwiches (everything from virtuous hummus to a chicken quesadilla) made with organic, locally sourced ingredients, plus a full breakfast menu (whether you’re looking for a bowl of cereal, a stack of pancakes, or thick-cut Canadian bacon), and you might find yourself there all day. It’s low key and the baristas are friendly, though they only accept cash--and it’s a long walk to the nearest ATM. --Diana Clarke More >>

  • The Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe

The Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe

1 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10020-2003
    212-262-7700

http://www.morrellwinebar.com Sometimes a great wine bar is just a great wine bar, and that's what Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe is. There's food, sure, and you can get a salad or sandwich or maybe a steak if you're feeling carnivorous, but the worth of the place rests in a wine list that boasts over 1,000 different bottles of the best quality stuff. The list is exhaustive to the point of fussiness, and there are bottles (and glasses) at all price points. Servers are typically knowledgeable, and perhaps the best thing about the place is that the Midtown West location is just next to the Morrell Wine retail store, where most of the wines on the bar's menu are available to purchase and take home, where you can imbibe in comfort rather than in the overtly trendy atmosphere of the bar itself, though the outdoor seating makes it a pretty solid summer destination. --Shane Barnes More >>

  • Mud Truck

Astor Place Uptown 6 Train New York, NY 10003
    212-529-8766

http://www.themudtruck.com It's all I can do to keep from hurling myself into the Mudtruck every morning. The coffee is better and cheaper than anywhere else, plus the milk is steamed for every cup. But more than even those important elements, it's the people who make Mud good. When they tell you to have "the most awesome weekendaever!" you believe that they want you to. Once you get used to that, you can't go back to starting your day with an apathetic "have a nice day".
